The October 2026 game releases schedule opens with “Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve” on October 2 and runs through “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4” on October 23 and “Phantom Blade Zero” on October 29, making it one of the busiest months of the year for console and PC players. Microsoft’s “Gears of War: E-Day” and the podracing-inspired “Star Wars: Galactic Racer” both land on October 6, while Konami and Square Enix fill the middle of the month with “Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse” and “Final Fantasy Resonance”.
For Nigerian gamers, the month also brings a few decisions about money and timing, since several of these games reward pre-orders with early access, one big shooter skips Game Pass at launch and another arrives on Game Pass on day one. The dates below are taken from each publisher’s official announcements.

Modern Warfare 4 is the October release that changes plans
Activision’s official Modern Warfare 4 site confirms an October 23 launch across Xbox, PlayStation, PC through Battle.net and Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. Treyarch and Raven are developing the game, and its campaign is set around a North Korean invasion that spreads to locations including New York, Paris and Mumbai. Players who pre-order can start the campaign a week early from October 16.
The bigger detail for Xbox players is on the game’s Xbox Store listing, which states that Modern Warfare 4 is “not available with Game Pass at Launch”. It’s still cloud playable for Game Pass members once they’ve bought the game, but anyone who planned to play it through a subscription will need to budget for a full purchase. Our earlier explainer on when Call of Duty arrives on Game Pass now that day one access has been removed covers how that policy came about.
Gears of War: E-Day gives Game Pass members the month’s best value
“Gears of War: E-Day” goes the other way, and its Xbox Store page lists an October 6 release on Xbox Series X|S, Windows and Steam with day one Game Pass access, and the Premium Edition unlocks up to five days of early play. The game supports Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers both console and PC. We’ve already broken down its PC requirements and pre-load timing for players planning to install it on launch week.
Bandai Namco’s Ace Combat 8 page confirms the flight game arrives on October 2 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, with three days of early access for Deluxe Edition and Joker Flight Pack buyers. Four days later, “Star Wars: Galactic Racer” from Fuse Games and publisher Secret Mode launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and Secret Mode’s release announcement puts the Standard Edition at $59.99, with a Deluxe Edition at $79.99.
Castlevania and Final Fantasy bring two very different throwbacks
“Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse” launches on October 15 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a Switch version due later in 2026. Developed by Evil Empire with Konami and Motion Twin, it follows Rose Belmont, the daughter of Trevor Belmont, through a burning Paris and Dracula’s castle in 1499, 23 years after the events of “Castlevania III”.
A week later, Square Enix releases “Final Fantasy Resonance”, which it describes in its launch announcement as “the very first HD-2D FINAL FANTASY game”. It’s built on the first story arc of the mobile game “Final Fantasy Brave Exvius” but rebuilt as a console RPG with turn-based battles, and it’s the widest release of the month, arriving on Switch 2, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC on October 22 and on Steam a day later.
Phantom Blade Zero closes the month after its September delay
S-GAME’s action RPG was originally due on September 9 before the studio moved it back by 50 days, and PlayStation confirmed on its official X account that it now launches on PS5 on October 29. The studio said the extra time would go into upgrading character models, reworking environments and refining visual quality. It’s also coming to PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store on the same day.
What October means for Nigerian players’ budgets
None of the official announcements above lists naira pricing, so Nigerian buyers will be paying the dollar prices on each store, and those are exposed to the exchange rate on the day of purchase. With Modern Warfare 4 outside Game Pass at launch and Gears of War: E-Day inside it, Xbox players have a clear choice about where a subscription does the most work this month, while PS5 owners face the heaviest spread of paid releases from Ace Combat 8 through to Phantom Blade Zero.
October’s spending also has to leave room for November, when “Grand Theft Auto VI” is set to launch on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and our guide to GTA 6 pricing and pre-orders in Nigeria is worth reading before deciding how many October games to buy at full price.
