Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the Standard Edition priced at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99, and GTA 6 in Nigeria is shaping up to be a very different purchase from the disc-swapping days of GTA V. With a fresh wave of official details on Jason, Lucia and the state of Leonida arriving this week, and launch now under eight weeks away, Nigerian players are starting to work out how, where and in what form they’ll actually buy it.
Rockstar opened pre-orders on June 25, and Take-Two’s pre-order announcement confirmed the editions, the bonuses and one detail that matters more in Nigeria than almost anywhere else, which is that the physical box doesn’t contain a disc.

The GTA 6 physical copy is a download code in a box
According to Rockstar, the physical edition of GTA 6 costs the same $79.99 as the digital Standard Edition but ships with a download code rather than a game disc. That changes the maths for Nigerian players who have long relied on buying a disc, finishing the game and selling it on at computer villages and gaming shops to recover part of the cost. A code, once redeemed, is tied to the account that used it, so there’s no second-hand copy to pass along afterwards.
It also means the full game still has to be downloaded on day one whichever version you buy. Rockstar says both digital and physical buyers can pre-load from November 12, a week ahead of launch, which gives players on metered MTN, Airtel or Glo data plans and slower home broadband some breathing room to get the download done before release night. This follows the wider industry direction NaijaGamer covered when Sony outlined its move away from physical PlayStation discs.

The Rockstar Store listing says players who order before November 20 get the Vintage Vice City Pack at no extra cost, and that Standard Edition owners can upgrade to Ultimate later. The game also requires an internet connection and a Rockstar account, which is worth setting up before launch rather than on the night.
Buying GTA 6 in Nigeria depends on which account you use
Sony doesn’t operate a Nigerian PlayStation Store region, so most PS5 owners in the country buy games through a US or UK account topped up with gift cards, and many Xbox owners do the same through foreign Microsoft accounts. For GTA 6, that means the price you actually pay in naira will depend on the store region, the exchange rate on the day and whatever margin the gift card seller charges, rather than any official Nigerian price. Rockstar has not announced naira pricing, and none should be expected.
Players buying the boxed version from local retailers should check which region the code is for before paying, since a code has to match the region of the account it’s redeemed on. With PS5 prices already high locally, as our PS4 and PS5 price guide for Nigeria shows, some players will also weigh GTA 6 against the cost of upgrading from a PS4, since the game won’t run on last-generation consoles.
No PC version yet, and that matters for Nigerian players
Rockstar has only confirmed GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the pre-order announcement makes no mention of a PC release. GTA V reached PC well after its console debut, and a sizeable share of Nigerian players game on laptops and desktops, so that group will be waiting on a separate announcement that Rockstar hasn’t made. For console owners, the practical steps are to settle on an account region, set up a Rockstar account, and plan the download for the November 12 pre-load window.
