The Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen release date is Friday, October 9, 2026, when Capcom’s first major expansion for its 2024 action RPG arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC through Steam and, for the first time, Nintendo Switch 2. It’s sold two ways, as a standalone expansion for people who already own Dragon’s Dogma 2 and as a bundle that includes the base game for newcomers.
The expansion takes its name from 2013’s Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, the definitive edition of the original game, and Capcom has brought back that release’s director, Kento Kinoshita, to lead this one. With launch three days away, the details that matter most for players in Nigeria are what the content adds, how the bundle works and how much downloading you’ll want done before Friday.

Norgan is where the Dark Arisen story heads north
Capcom describes the new area as a frigid northern region called Norgan, home to a Fallen Dragon whose heart is missing and a mysterious woman named Eir, who sits at the centre of the new story. In a PlayStation Blog recap of the Capcom Spotlight, the team said it wanted to “invite players to a mysterious new frigid northern area called Norgan”, in response to fans asking for more of the world to explore.
The loop built around Norgan is called the Relic Expedition cycle. You fight through the region, collect relics, and have them appraised into new weapons and armour, which gives the expansion a gear chase that the base game’s endgame was thinner on. Alongside it, Capcom is adding 12 new dungeons called Lost Rites, each holding rare equipment said to belong to past Arisen, plus new hairstyles and tattoos in the character creator.
Bundle or expansion: which Dark Arisen purchase you actually need
If you already own Dragon’s Dogma 2, the standalone expansion is the one to buy. If you don’t, the bundle is the cheaper way in, and the Xbox Store listing for Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen shows it starting at $49.99, with the base game playable straight away and the Explorer’s Camping Kit and the Dragon’s Dogma Music and Sound Collection included. The expansion content and the pre-order Norgan Fashion Set (Northern Attire) unlock on launch day, and the US Xbox store dates them October 8, so the exact unlock time is likely to differ by region and time zone.
Prices for Nigerian players depend on the regional store your account uses, since Nigeria doesn’t have its own PlayStation Store or Nintendo eShop region. Check the price on your own store before you pay, especially on PS5, where regional prices can differ a lot from the US figure.
Switch 2 owners get the full game for the first time
Dark Arisen is also the first time Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available on Nintendo Switch 2, and the Nintendo pre-order announcement lists the same October 9 date with the snowy new region, the 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges and the extra customisation options. That makes the Switch 2 version the complete package rather than a late port of the 2024 game on its own.
The free update that lands before you reach Norgan
Capcom has already shipped a free update to the base game that’s worth knowing about even if you skip the expansion. It added more save slots, raised weapon skill slots from four to six and brought performance improvements, which addresses some of the most common complaints from the game’s launch. Anyone returning to an old save will find the character more flexible in fights than they remember.
For players on Nigerian data plans, the bigger practical issue is the download. Bundle buyers can install and play the base game now, so the smart move is to get that large install done over the next few nights and leave only the expansion files for Friday. Owners of the base game should also make sure it’s fully updated before launch day, so the expansion doesn’t stack on top of a pending patch. Our October 2026 game releases guide has the rest of this month’s big launches if you’re planning your data around more than one game.
