The Gears of War: E-Day PC requirements make a ray tracing capable graphics card compulsory, and pre-installation for the game opens on Tuesday, September 29, ahead of early access on October 1 and the full launch on October 6. The Coalition’s prequel is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Xbox app and Steam, and it’s on Game Pass from day one for the tiers that get Microsoft’s new releases at launch.
For Nigerian players, the pre-load window is the most useful part of this week’s news. The game needs at least 115GB of free SSD space on PC, and the console download is expected to be large too, which is a serious amount of data to move on a mobile or fixed wireless connection. Starting it on Tuesday gives you a week to spread the download across cheaper night plans or off-peak hours before launch day.

Gears of War: E-Day PC requirements rule out GTX laptops
The detail that’ll catch many Nigerian PC players out is the ray tracing rule. The Coalition’s published specs state that a graphics card with dedicated hardware ray tracing support is required, and cards without it aren’t supported at all. That shuts out the GTX 1650 and GTX 1660 family, which still powers a lot of the budget gaming laptops sold in Nigeria, however much RAM or storage the machine has.
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| Target | 1080p at 60fps, medium preset, with upscaling | 1440p at 60fps or more, high preset, with upscaling |
| OS | Windows 10/11 | Windows 10/11 |
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 5 2600X or Intel Core i5-10400 | AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5-11600K |
| Memory | 12GB | 16GB |
| Graphics | NVIDIA RTX 2060 or RTX 5050, AMD RX 6600 or RX 9060 | NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti or RTX 5060, AMD RX 6700 XT or RX 9060 XT |
| Video memory | 6GB | 8GB |
| Storage | 115GB SSD | 115GB SSD |
The minimum tier aims at 1080p and 60fps on medium settings with upscaling such as DLSS, FSR or XeSS switched on, so an RTX 2060 is the entry point on the NVIDIA side. There’s also a 4K ultra tier that calls for an RTX 5070 Ti or Radeon RX 7900 XT with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or Core i7-14700K, which only a small group of Nigerian players will be near. An SSD is required in every tier, so if your laptop still carries a hard drive as its second disk, install the game on the SSD.
Which Game Pass tier gets Gears of War: E-Day on day one?
The official Gears of War: E-Day page confirms the game is playable with Game Pass on day one, and online multiplayer on console needs Game Pass Ultimate. On PC, PC Game Pass covers it at launch too. Game Pass Premium subscribers don’t get it on day one, since Microsoft’s current structure brings its own first-party games to Premium within about a year, and Essential doesn’t include it. We’ve broken down how those tiers differ in our comparison of Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass.
Early access runs up to five days before launch for anyone who buys the Premium Edition or the Premium Upgrade, which also includes a weapon pack and five seasonal customisation packs. Early access opens at 3pm UTC on October 1, which is 4pm in Nigeria, and the full release follows at the same time on October 6. The standard game on Game Pass doesn’t include early access, so Game Pass players start on the 6th unless they pay for the upgrade.
Getting a 115GB download ready on Nigerian data
The pre-install is the best way to avoid launch-day stress. Queue the download on Tuesday, pause it when your data plan’s cheaper window ends, and resume it the next night, since downloads on the Xbox app and on consoles can be paused and picked up again. On console, set the download to continue in standby so it keeps going while the screen is off. Clear the space before you start, so the download doesn’t stall halfway through for lack of storage.
Once you’re in, E-Day’s online modes will feel your connection quality as much as your hardware. Our guide to lowering gaming ping on MTN, Airtel, Glo and T2 covers the settings and network choices that help with multiplayer lag. If your PC doesn’t meet the ray tracing requirement, cloud gaming through Game Pass Ultimate is the other route listed on the game’s page, though it depends on a stable, fast connection to be enjoyable.
