The Witcher 3 Remastered goes live today, Tuesday 29 September 2026, at 11am Nigerian time, and anyone who already owns CD Projekt Red’s 2015 role-playing game can upgrade for free on the same platform. The remaster arrives on PC through Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store and Battle.net, as well as on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, with a rebuilt DirectX 12 renderer, path tracing on PC and a redesigned skill tree.
CD Projekt Red set out the ownership rule plainly in its official rundown of what’s new, saying that “if you purchased any version of the game in the past, physical or digital, you will be able to upgrade for free to the Remastered version within the same platform ecosystem.” There’s no preload, so the update only becomes available at the release time.

What time The Witcher 3 Remastered unlocks in Nigeria
The update rolls out at the same moment on every platform. CD Projekt Red listed 11am BST for the UK, and because the UK and Nigeria share the same clock during British Summer Time, that lands at 11am WAT in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. Players elsewhere get it at 12pm CEST in central Europe, 6am EDT on the US east coast and 3am PDT on the west coast.
CD Projekt Red’s team put the update at roughly 45GB on Xbox, PS5 and Steam, and about 50GB on Switch 2, which is a serious chunk of a monthly data plan for anyone in Nigeria gaming on a mobile router or MiFi. Players on capped bundles will want to schedule the download for off-peak hours or a night plan where their network offers one, and those who want steadier online sessions afterwards can look at our guide to lowering gaming ping on MTN, Airtel, Glo and T2.
The free upgrade rule that catches out Switch 2 and account-hopping players
On PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, the remaster arrives as an update to the copy you already own. Switch 2 works differently, because the remastered version is listed as a separate product on the Nintendo eShop, so existing owners have to go into the eShop and claim it rather than wait for an automatic patch. The download is still free for players who own the game, and physical copy owners can claim the upgrade through the eShop from launch day. New buyers on Switch 2 are reportedly paying $59.99.
The phrase “within the same platform ecosystem” matters a lot in Nigeria, where many PlayStation and Xbox owners run UK or US accounts because there is no local PlayStation Store. The upgrade follows the account and storefront that holds the original purchase, so a copy bought on a UK PSN account shouldn’t be expected to unlock the remaster on a separate US account, and a Steam purchase won’t turn into a GOG copy. Xbox players get an extra benefit, since the game supports Xbox Play Anywhere, which gives them the PC version as well, with save data and achievements carrying over.
What’s actually new in The Witcher 3 Remastered
The technical overhaul is biggest on PC, where the game moves to a native DirectX 12 renderer with multithreading and adds path tracing, ray-traced HairWorks, ground truth ambient occlusion and textures drawn from the community HD Reworked Project. Upscaling support now covers DLSS 4.5, FSR 4 and XeSS 2.0, and PC players using a DualSense controller get haptic feedback. Anyone on a mid-range laptop will want to check the updated system requirements table on the official site before switching on the heavier features, much as PC players had to do with the Gears of War: E-Day PC requirements.
The gameplay changes go well beyond visuals. The skill tree has been redesigned around a three-rank system, and skill points are reset as part of the change, so returning players should expect to redistribute them and rethink their Geralt build. Equipment can now be reforged to change its appearance, combat animations have been improved, horse controls have been adjusted, and a new “Bard’s Ballad” accessibility preset joins a meditation timelapse, grouped loot and an expanded Photo Mode. On Switch 2, the remaster adds motion controls, gyro aiming and touch screen support.
For Nigerian players who picked up The Witcher 3 in a sale years ago, the remaster costs nothing beyond the data to download it. The practical steps are to confirm which account owns your copy, clear around 50GB of storage, and plan the download around your data bundle before 11am.
