Xbox Mythic Achievements started rolling out to Xbox Insiders on console and PC on September 29, 2026, giving players a special badge for unlocking every original achievement in a game. Microsoft has made the feature retroactive, so games completed years ago, including Xbox 360 titles, already carry the new award for anyone who finished them.
It’s one of the most requested features in the Xbox community, and it lands at a busy time for the platform, with “Gears of War: E-Day” and “Minecraft Dungeons II” both arriving in the same stretch. For Nigerian players who have spent years stacking up Gamerscore on second-hand Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles, the retroactive part is the headline, since a long backlog of completed games could light up with Mythic badges the moment the feature reaches their account.
How Xbox Mythic Achievements are earned
According to Microsoft’s Xbox Insider announcement, a Mythic Achievement is awarded when a player completes all of a game’s original achievements. Achievements added later through paid DLC or free updates are not part of the requirement, which matters for long-running games whose lists have grown well beyond what shipped at launch. A player who cleared a game’s launch list years ago won’t lose Mythic status just because a new expansion added fresh achievements.
The award does not add any Gamerscore. It works as a mark of completion, in much the same spirit as PlayStation’s Platinum trophy, and Microsoft says it shows up in achievement history with a distinctive frame so it stands apart from ordinary unlocks.
Your old Xbox 360 completions finally get their due
The retroactive rollout covers eligible games across Xbox generations, from Xbox 360 through Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S, as well as games played on PC. That’s significant in Nigeria, where the Xbox 360 had a long life as an affordable console and many players still run backward-compatible 360 games on newer hardware. Anyone who completed those lists on the same account should see the recognition without replaying a single level.
PC players are included too, which is useful for anyone who has leaned on PC Game Pass rather than a console. Achievements earned through the Xbox app on Windows count towards the same profile.
The new Gaming tab turns completion into something you can track
Alongside the badge, Xbox has added a Gaming tab to player profiles. It brings together achievements, Gamerscore milestone badge progress and past completed games, and it lets players open a friend’s Gaming tab to compare Mythic collections. Every game’s achievement list also gets a progress bar at the top showing how close a player is to Mythic status, and achievement details now flag which ones belong to add-on content.
That progress bar is likely to change how completionists pick their next project. A game sitting at 90 percent with no DLC requirement is now an obvious target, and the add-on labels remove the guesswork about which remaining achievements actually count.
When everyone else gets Mythic Achievements
For now, the feature is limited to members of the Xbox Insider programme, which is joined through the free Xbox Insider Hub app on console or PC. Microsoft has said it will reach all players at a later date but hasn’t given a release window, so most players will need to wait for a general update before the badges appear on their profiles.
Insider features usually go through several weeks of testing before a wider rollout, and Microsoft could still adjust how the system behaves based on feedback. With “Gears of War: E-Day” close, and its PC requirements and pre-load details already confirmed, the timing gives Xbox players a fresh reason to chase full completion on one of the platform’s biggest releases of the year.
